What is LAILLAR?

LAILLAR stands for the Libraries Agreement In Leicestershire, Leicester And Rutland. It is an agreement between the three public libraries and three university libraries in this area. It commits them to co-operate more closely in providing access to information and developing lifelong learning opportunities for all. The 2000 Agreement was reconfirmed by the six members in December 2006.

How will it help?

Information is now available in a variety of forms, both printed and electronic. All LAILLAR libraries are committed to helping anyone living, working or studying in the area to find the library resources best suited to their needs.

All six libraries are members of the Inspire initiative, which commits them to supporting learning in its widest sense.

What do the libraries offer?
  • The public libraries:

These are open to everyone living or working in the area. Those registered with one library can use their card in any other public library in Leicester, Leicestershire or Rutland.

  • The university libraries:

These are primarily for the use of their own students and staff, but anyone may visit them for reference purposes. This means that they will be able to make use of material including books, journals and magazines. For further information, please get in touch with the contacts listed. An annual fee is usually payable for if you wish to borrow books.
